La Belle Époque

Image
The turn of the century was a time of prosperity, beatitude and innovations in science, art and the world view. The life in metropolises was fulfilled with joy, the parlours of aristocracy received musicians, poets, writers, diplomats and the whole haute society, because noblesse obliged.. Moreover, the haute couture was invented in Paris, so this shows clearly which lifestyle people were seeking for. I am not nostalgic, because our era is a golden age as well, if we let it be so, if we live our life the way we want, if we explore places we love, if we surround us with people who understand us, if we surround us with things that glamorize our days. Nevertheless, while enjoying teatime at the Crillon yesterday and being charmed by the amazing exposition " The Twonhouse. A Parisian Ambition"  I was just thinking about this period and how everything flourished at that time. Thus today, we have it all.

Run the world..

Another friday night spent with friends at l'Arc . . Another extraordinary moments of happiness, freedom and pleasure.. But friendships can't last forever.. People come, people go.. Thus the most important relationship we should work on and care about is those we have with ourselves.. If we respect our needs than nothing can go wrong.. In the afternoon I saw finally the " L'aventure des Stein " exposition at Grand Palais. The friendship between the Stein Family and artists like Matisse, Cézanne and Picasso was not only deep but the upturn of their careers.. Thus to succeed in life you need faithful people around you and being at the right time, at the right place..

The last two days reminded me that Paris is an unpredictable place. One can have a very Oriental afternoon while being at rue Saint-Honoré or dip into another world behind the Costes door or go to an exposition and get an ugliness shock. The last happened thanks to Diane Arbus   whose work can be ,,admired" in Jeu de Paume . Or better not. One of her quotes I read there was: ,, I really believe there are things nobody would see if I didn't photograph them ''. And I really believe it would be better if she didn't. Freakshow must not go on.

Welcome to St. Paris

Wearing a black outfit and Chanel No.5, I spent this sunday afternoon in my favourite Parisian Park - the Park Hyatt . Being not only intrigued by the black & white concept that I adore, but also by the silent cinema of late 20's and early 30's, I decided to abolish my cinema strike that began in March this year after having seen the most awful film ,, Never let me go"  and finally go to see ,, The Artist " directed by Michel Hazanavicius. And I suddenly understood what means the proverb: ,, Speech is silver, silence is golden". The film is just brilliant and I am not surprised why Jean Dujardin got the Best Actor Award in Cannes. Really excellent! According to that great silent experience, words are unnecessary as long as the music is awesome. And finally: ,, Silence is  a woman's best garment".

Golden autumn in Paris

I wanted to visit the Matisse, Cézanne, Picasso...L'aventure des Stein exposition today, but the crowd waiting in front of the Grand Palais made me change my plans. So wearing my beloved fourrure, I had a wonderful walk in the Parisian october sun. At teatime I went to a place where every detail is perfect thus in such an atmosphere every moment flows there. Moreover, my desire for art was fulfiled to a marginal extent as well when I discovered one of the Patrick Laroche's sculptures. Probably in a decade he will be so in demand like Picasso or Cézanne is today, because we rarely appreciate what we have, unless we loose it.  Therefore, it is more than gold if you can say that you are perfectly happy. Right now. If not put your future in good hands - your own! (Carine Roitfeld)

L'ARC.. de Triomphe..

Ladies and Gentlemen, there is just one place in Paris where the ambience is unrivalled. It is a place where style and elegance and glamour and extravagance is inartificial, but artful. It is a place where I have always unforgettable moments. It is unique. It is amazing. And beautiful. And sophisticated. It is l'ARC - the one and only..  After another great night there, I discovered that we have to decide which kind of people we are: Those for whom less is more or for whom too much is never enough. L'Arc is definitely a place I just can't get enough, but for the rest..?  For the rest I will trust my heart.. Like we all should..

Dolce, dolce, dolce..

It was the birthday of my brother. He was in the south of Germany, me in Paris. But after a morning call, I just had the incredible desire to celebrate with him that day, so I packed my bags and made a 1000 km trip just to arrive 20 minutes before midnight at his place with champagne and the happiness that I made it on time. A beautiful moment..  And the party began.. And it continues..  At the moment in a noble italian restaurant in Kempten. With a Moët&Chandon glass I am asking myself where my love for freedom comes from.. Well, some questions will remain unacknowledged but one is sure - if you are unpredictable for yourself that's where the fun begins.. Nevertheless, I just got an invitation for the Rich Glamour Night on saturday. Like I said the celebration continues..

,, There is a place. Like no place on Earth. A land full of wonder, mystery, and danger! Some say to survive it: You need to be as mad as a hatter ". A quotation from Alice in Wonderland, but a reflection of Paris. The city of wonder and mystery and craziness somehow.. With the Talbot Runhof Show at the Westin Hotel which wasn't  breathtaking but really delightful and for sure prêt-à-porter, I started the last day of this Fashion Week.. After a coffee at the Grand Hotel, I saw the show of Alena Akhmadullina there, who's collection was inspired by Alice in Wonderland. Indeed. Then the location changed because Agnès B. organised her show on a boat near to the Musée d'Orsay with a really nice reception afterwards. The finish was in the Austerlitz train station organised by Impasse de la Défense . Even if the show hurt my eyes and the bagpipe music hurt my ears, the day was just wonderful.. The week was wonderful.. I have found my connection to Paris back.. And someti

Show must go on.. So it does.. And as I observed already, there is one main trend for the next season: transparent shirts, transparent blouses and transparent dresses.. The women body will be released next season..  Nakedness becomes art.. Moreover, in the shows of Issey Miyake where the hats were amazing   and Lie Sang Bong there were some interesting light installations;  Steffie Christiaens impressed not only with her futuristic style and life music, but above all with the use of plumes that I loved so much; the collection of  Valentin Yudashkin was just magic and I got the feeling that fairies are sliding through the catwalk - it was so beautiful..; the show of John Galliano started so innocent and classic and with every other model the outfits became more and more subtle, courageous and extravagant.. An amazing transformation.. To be continued..

The Fashion Week fever in Paris is always a time where the whole city is in state of emergency. Of Fashion Emergency. Fashion Shows all day long, rushing from one to another, the feeling of fashion exhaustion and teariness when everything is over. Fortunately it's not over yet.. After the first impressions, it is obvious that the next spring and summer will be.. transparent..
